Maritime

Above water and underwater

Fibre composites have become an integral part of boat building. The great advantage over conventional materials such as wood and steel is the ease with which free-form surfaces can be realised. This results in a particularly wide range of design options. Selective use of sandwich constructions makes it possible to produce components with low weight and high mechanical properties.

In the segments of commercial shipping, passenger transport and naval, e.g. when building ferries, cruise ships or frigates, special fire protection properties are required in order to offer crew and passengers the greatest possible safety in the event of fire.
As a rule, the materials must be approved by Germanischer Lloyd, Lloyds Register or Det Norske Veritas.
